The Big Ask
It all began on a road trip to pick up a motorcycle that Jeremy bought on E-bay. On that road trip in September 2003, Joey shared with his brother Jeremy that God was leading him to start a church, and he wanted Jeremy to consider going with him.
The Need
Jeremy and Joey both saw the need for churches that could reach out to young families. They also had a heart to see men “step up” and become leaders in their families. They felt that churches that could reach men and minister to families would be able to truly impact the world. They also were thinking big. They did not want to simply start one church, but felt that God was calling them to start one church that would be a catalyst for starting many churches.
Dreams Become Reality
After almost two years of praying and planning, Jeremy, Joey, and their families moved to Granbury in June of 2005 to start StoneWater.
On the July 4th weekend 2005, StoneWater Church entered the community parade to give away 5000 bottles of water and an invite card to a Sneak Preview service that was held at the Square (95 people attended).
From that service, a Launch Team was formed that met in Jeremy's home each week. The team consisted of about 12 families. Together, they dreamed, prayed, planned, and prepared to launch StoneWater. One of the questions on everyone’s mind was, “Where will we meet?” God answered the prayer by providing us the opportunity to meet at the Driftwood Theatre. On October 16, 2005, StoneWater Church officially launched meeting weekly at the Driftwood with over 190 people in attendance.
Since the launch, God has overwhelmed us with new families every week. Within a year, the church outgrew the Driftwood and moved into a school. StoneWater currently meets at Texana Plaza, between Lowes and Walmart. On a typical Sunday, we will see over 1,000 men, women, and children in worship. We have grown to over 40 small groups meeting all throughout the community during the week. We have also been able to begin to fulfill our vision for starting churches by sending Joey, who is now our Church Planting Pastor, to San Diego to start churches. StoneWater is fulfilling the mission that God placed in our hearts.
Every ounce of credit for StoneWater Church goes to God. Without His vision StoneWater would not exist.
